Tools of the Trade: Forest, Garden and Yard

The Allegheny Mountain Woodland Association (AMWA) invites you to participate in Tools of the Trade on Saturday, March 20th, 9:00 AM to Noon.  This event will take place in Ebensburg at the Dauntless Fire Company Station, 209 West Sample Street, next to the old prison. Contact Barb or Paul at Noll’s Forestry (call 814-472-8560) for additional information.

Tools of the Trade is a two-part program on selecting and maintaining the tools you use the most in the woodlot, garden, and lawn.

Chainsaw Essentials: The morning begins with a two hour program by Guy Gontkovic of Stihl Power Tools.  He will cover the basics of selecting, maintaining, repairing, and safely operating a chainsaw. Participants will also have the opportunity to try some of the tools sold by Stihl.

Hand Tools: Saws, axes, pruning shears and more! Chris Salem, of Chris Salem’s Professional Tool will present the second part of the program. He will demonstrate the best sharpening techniques for the most commonly used hand tools.

The cost of this program is $5 for nonmembers, while AMWA members can attend free of charge. Anyone who becomes an AMWA member by paying the $15 annual membership fee will be able to attend this workshop at no additional charge and participate in the remainder of the 2010 events free or at a reduced rate.  Membership applications will be processed at the door.

Snacks and beverages will be provided. Preregistration is not required. Visit www.amwa.treesofpa.com for more information on AMWA and 2010 programs.
